Terms and Conditions of entry

The following terms and conditions apply to the WorkLifeGroup Writers Contest #1. In consideration for agreement with these terms and conditions the contest entry fee is waived and entry is free.

  1. The contest is for short story writing on the subject of 'career change'.
  2. Each story submitted must be written in English and be at most 1,600 words in length.
  3. Each story must be original work of the author written specifically for this contest, and must not previously have been displayed online or published in print.
  4. Any reference to, or extracts from, written work of others must be clearly identified with footnotes, references, or a bibliography of sources used.
  5. If a story includes the identity of another person, you must first before submitting the story, obtain their permission for publicly disclosing their identity and for submitting the story to WorkLifeGroup for possible online publishing. By submitting the story you warrant you have received their full permission for disclosure, and you agree to indemnify WorkLifeGroup for any and all damages and costs arising from the disclosing of their identity.
  6. Contestants can submit multiple entries up until the contest closes.
  1. The contest closes at 5pm (GMT), 31 January 2010. Entries received after the contest closes will not be eligible to be included in the judging or awarding the pize.
  2. Entries will only be eligible if submitted as an attachment in electronic format, uploaded from the contest 'submit your entry' web page, available as a link after registering. (Preferred electronic format is .doc, .docx, .txt, .pdf or .pages.)
  3. Incomplete, illegible or incomprehensible entries will not be eligible.
  1. The Author retains copyright to the story created and contributed to the web site.
  2. The Author grants WorkLifeGroup a perpetual license to display online and use the authored content contributed by the Author.
  3. For the story judged the winner, in consideration for the prize money awarded the Author grants an exclusive perpetual license to display online and use the authored content contributed by the Author, and will not allow the story to be displayed online on any other web site.
  4. The perpetual license for WorkLifeGroup to use the authored content includes possible use for product commercialisation, promotion, and education, and may include use in whole or in part, including extracts and quotations.
  1. Each entry will be judged based on its relevance to 'career change', the writing skill, and the story's ability to engage and entertain the reading audience.
  2. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  3. The prize for the winning entry is US$500. The prize will be paid within 1 calendar month of the winner being notified.
  4. The winner(s) will be notified by email and/or phone, using the contact details provided on registration for the contest.
  5. Up to 5 emails and 5 calls will be made over a period of 5 days to notify the winner and confirm prize payment arrangements. If no response is received, the entry judged the next best will be awarded the prize.
  1. Each contestant is solely responsible for their costs for writing and entering the contest. WorkLifeGroup is not liable for any costs incurred by contestants.
  2. WorkLifeGroup is not liable for any loss or damage to property, or personal injury which is suffered or sustained as a result of taking part in this promotion.
  3. The governing law and jurisdiction for the competition is Isle of Man.
  4. Proof of e-mail sent or online entry does not constitute proof of receipt of your entry. No responsibility is accepted by WorkLifeGroup for entries lost, delayed or damaged.
  5. WorkLifeGroup is not liable for any damage, loss or disappointment suffered by any person taking part or not being able to take part in a competition.
  6. WorkLifeGroup reserves the right to publish any and all entries submitted, but publication may not indicate the entry has won a prize
  7. WorklifeGroup reserves the right at its sole discretion to edit entries for publication.
  8. WorklifeGroup reserves the right at its sole discretion at any time to cancel, modify or supersede the competition (including altering prizes) without prior notice.
  9. Each clause in these terms and conditions is severable without invalidating the remaining clauses.
